Risk Assesment

Location

These are some photos taken of a possible location for our music video, the woods are in Wilmington, close to school meaning the location is very easy to access.

Above are photographs our second location, which is a bathroom in our school, there is enough space to film, and not too many mirrors so we could work around them without having the reflection of the camera in shot. The bathrooms are easily accesable to us, and very neat and presentable.

Dismissal

As a group we decided to dismiss the First pitch, we decided the sequence was too linear, with the everyday events it was far too straight forward and narrative, we had worries that it would not be very captivating. We decided to keep the idea of masks, liking the eerie quality of the clown mask, we think this idea gives our music video a bold enrapturing quality. Furthermore we decided the initial song Muse - 'Feeling Good' did not fit the mood of the song, we felt the music was slightly too seductive rather than eerie. Furthermore we have decided that with our next song choice initially we will look at the lyrics and depict what they mean exactly before fitting the song to an idea. At the moment it is a unanimous decision to keep the music video strictly narrative, the song alternative, and keep the idea of masks and split identities.

'Feeling Good' Lyrics

Muse - "Feeling Good"
Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds driftin' on by you know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
blossom in the trees you know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is doneAnd this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me
Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

First Pitch

The first idea I had for our music video was a narrative content, rather than performance, as our group do not have the resources to create a performance based music video. After listening to the song Muse - 'Feeling Good', I had an idea for a satirical music video playing on the words 'Feeling Good'. The Video would be entailing the life of a lonely girl, different than everyone else an outsider who was feeling nothing but good. The video would show her everyday morning routine, such as brushing teeth, eating toast making tea, brushing hair , all the shots would be very short and snappy and never show the main characters face. At the climax of the intro as the chorus begins when 'I'm feeling good' kicks in the face of the girl would be shown to the audience, but it would be a clowns mask. Then the rest of the video would portray the character as different as everyone else (who would be mask less), lonely, at work, at parties, picked on and maybe beaten at one point, her mask would be ripped off after the beating and then left face down on the side of the road. The camera would then follow the feet of an unknown character, who would pull the girl up from the floor, the camera would follow the girl up to be met by a person also in a clown mask. The couple would walk down the street hand in hand, the last shot being a shot of both characters, a girl and a boy, with the clown masks on the back of their heads lips touching with their faces finaly unveiled.

I intended the idea of the video to be thought provoking and portray a story for the audience to become involved in and perhaps relate to, almost everyone at one point has felt like an outsider or felt different to others. By infusing a love story at the end I wanted to illustrate that everyone has someone in their life who understands and loves them, swapping the lyrics from being satirical to finaly being realised, as the main character at last feels good in her own skin.

The Group

As the A2 project includes a vast amount of work we have been instructed to assign ourselves into groups of no more than four to share the work between us equaly. I am in a group with Hennie Clough, Kelsey James and Rakhee Patel. In our initial meetings we decided that we would complete brief (A) - a promotion package for the release of an album. We decided to choose to create a website homepage for the band, and an front cover for the release of the digipak, confident with our website making skills, and our creative skills in making a cover.

We decided the best way to approach the task was to all have as much input as each other in the creative side, aswell as the technical practical side, adding our own ideas and skills to each process during the overall production. Our first task is to do as much research into the music video industry, looking at different concepts, styles and genres, allowing us to establish what type of music video we would like to create. By thoroughly researching and exploring the concepts of music videos, websites and covers of digipacks, it will allow our group to create products relative to todays society.
