Second Rough Cut

Untitled from Jack Osman on Vimeo.

The second rough cut got a lot more praise, especially for the introduction, which gives the video a powerful and exciting introduction sure to grab the viewers attention. However our teacher though that by having all the video in black and white we were detracting from the horror of the clown. She liked how at the end the mask changes from black and white to colour as though the fantasy of the video has finally been realised, but she said it would be a more effective video if more shots of the clown where in colour, especially the closeups of the clowns face. She also thought that the introduction was slightly out of time so needs to be tightened up.

The general reaction from pupils in our media class was that the introduction has definitley improved the video, and made it more exciting.

Teachers Response to the first Rough Cut

We have not filled a section in the introduction with shots yet, so we have cut out the section, which is why there is a splice in the song at the begining.

The overall response from our teacher regarding the rough cut was that it has potential, but loose ends need to be tied to gain the best marks. First of all she said that the first verse was quite boring to watch, the editing is too slow and the shots need to be cut up a bit more to create interest as the beginning of the video has to capture audiences attention. As the tempo of the song increases and the editing does she said it started to become more captivating, though the bathroom shots need to be redone as they where slightly out of focus. Also at the end of the video there is a shot of the mask rising up from the floor, but she said that this shot detracts from the final shots where the mask is dropped, therefore that shot needs to be removed and filled with something else. Furthermore she said that she really liked the fast motion shots at the end of me shaking the mask on and off, but she thought the sequence went on for a little bit too long.

We showcased the roughcut to a few class mates to gain their opinion, overall the opinion was that the video has a good ide which could be executed a little bit better, and that the video needs to intergrated with more exciting shots. A few people said that they did not like the begining section with the photographs and clown faces, they found it to be a bit boring, and irrelevant to the rest of the video. Another qualm was that the bathroom scene does not make sense, so the shots could be a bit more establishing rather than close up to give scope on the situation. We will use the constructive critcism to develop our music video further.
